Congratulations to my mom and dad, who celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary today.
They're the best parents a girl could ask for, and the best role models for a successful marriage.
And guess where they're going for their anniversary dinner? Dressler - in Williamsburg, of all places. Does this mean my parents are hipsters?
P.S. A hardcore soap opera fan* sent this photo to my mom via Facebook recently - it's of my parents at the opening of Pippin on Broadway in 1972.
"Mom, you guys look like were running away from the paparazzi!" I joked.
"That's because we were running away from the paparazzi."
Oh.
Right.
Which is all very funny because when I think of my dad, he's under the crawl space of the house covered in sow bugs while my mom is gleefully killing aphids on her rose bushes.
P.P.S. Big floppy bow tie and auburn 'stache, white kid gloves, a blowsy flower pinned at the waist, a fur collar, false eyelashes and a double strand pearl choker. Love this look.
*My mom has a quite a loyal following from her days doing the soaps. Most of her fans are in prison for life, but every now and then we'll go to Bloomies and some old school sales woman at the makeup counter will tell my mom how sorry she is that her character was institutionalized/pimped out/stuffed in a trunk. Which is really very sweet.
