A Disappointed Book

You already know this, but Automatism is the best blog in the whole entire WORLDZ (aside from yours, of course). My favorite feature is the weekly list of links on a variety of topics, which are invariably fascinating and mind-opening. Today's was no different; I loved this sweet video Lori linked to from Anthology about a year in the life of a disappointed book:

I have to admit it made me a bit misty-eyed because I am a) a tad over-protective about my books (Fauxhawk BENDS HIS HARDCOVERS BACK - punishment by death!), and b) sleep deprived, which transforms me into an emotional wreck. Not sleeping well these past two weeks, but reading lots.

On growing old

A friend once told me that he always imagined me growing old in a Volkswagen bus covered with liberal bumper stickers. As delightful as that sounds, his theory completely clashes with my plans to become a grande dame. Who'd want a hippie bus when you could rock an old age of L'Air du Temps, weirdly applied cosmetics, and a stubborn defiance of the natural look?

Silk flower corsages. Dotted veils. Bits of extravagant lace. Dressing to the nines to meet your girls for lunch. Drawing your eyebrows in. Not giving a rat's ass. I LOVE IT. So cheerful. If only I could look this good now.
