I really love you guys. I am so grateful for your moral support, your kindness, your baby animals, and all of the amazing stories you shared in the comments section of my wedding rant. What a soulful and witty group you are - I'm very lucky to have you.
Having watched dead Haitians being pulled from rubble all week, I must say that I feel extremely foolish about my post. Though I try very hard to keep my head out of my ass, its' scary to see how easy it is to lose perspective when the center of the universe has suddenly become my thighs - an odd sensation for someone who spends twelves hours in her office being a giant brain disconnected from her body. Given the recent debate on 100 Layer Cake (an excellent wedding blog with a positive, fresh take on a particularly maddening process) it's clear that we're hard on ourselves, hard on each other, and generally struggling to internalize healthy attitudes about our bodies. Weddings involve a tremendous amount of scrutiny, and unless you're feeling pretty good about yourself, the prospect of being in the limelight is daunting.
Which is why I come back to this picture over and over again. Who knows what hang-ups and insecurities this woman battles, but what she projects is confidence, openness, and unselfconsciousness. To me, these three qualities are the essence of beauty and emotional well-being - and gaw damn, they're elusive.
It also helps to be cute as a button. Is she not cute as a button? Adorbs.Image from Sarty, of course.
