Mornin', glories! First off, thanks to the Mighty P. for bestowing upon me the honor of guest blogging. While I'm usually found rattling on about peach butter, bee hives, chicken feet, and dog antics over at Small Measure, I figured my stint on What Possessed Me deserved something perhaps a bit more scandalous (although chicken butts and fully ripened peaches do contain their own inherent degree of shock and awe, but I digress). What this joint needs is a drink! If P. can cool her heels bar-side in the Blue Lagoon (THE BLUE LAGOON, PEOPLE!), then we, her faithful readership, can whet our whistles as well. Can I get an "Amen"?
As my own foray into vacation-land begins in a mere two days, I've got libations on the brain. So, let's whip up something together, shall we? I'm thinking gin. Realizing that there are those strongly averse to gin, I'm suggesting instead a cocktail made of Hendrick's Gin. Not your average gin, Hendrick's, made in small-batches in Scotland, describes itself as "a most iconoclastic gin." True dat. This distillery infuses the standard juniper with cucumber, rose petals, coriander, and citrus. It will change your life.
Looking for the perfect Hendrick's cocktail, I gasped when I found the "Floradora." That's because 'tis to the Sunshine State that I am myself headed. Seemed auspicious enough, so, a round for all you lovelies is in order!
THE FLORADORA
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 oz. Hendrick's Gin
- 1/2 oz. Lime juice
- A spoonful of raspberry preserves
- Spicy ginger beer (I like Reed's)
- A lime wheel
- 2 raspberries
Preparation:
-Pour Hendrick's, followed by lime juice, and then raspberry preserves into an ice-filled tall glass
-Top off with ginger beer
-Garnish with lime wheel and raspberries
-Stir with a long spoon to disolve/disperse the raspberry preserves
Take a swig, jump up and fist pump wildly on account of the deliciousness overload, regain composure, sip demurely, and smile.
