Last night, while Fauxhawk stewed in a bath of post-smoking agitation, I watched an incredibly poignant documentary on the hospital at Ellis Island. Once the most venerable public health institution in the world, the Ellis Island Hospital is now abandoned to the elements and has fallen into beautiful decay.
Stephen Wilkes' photographs capture the haunted atmosphere of the hospital - one imagines all the tragic stories of immigrants who, fresh off the boat and mere steps away from citizenship, were separated from their families and denied or detained because of their health status.
More photographs and an interesting narrative here.
Apologies for infrequent posting today - I am a bizzee doing biznass.
