May is a good month for our balcony container garden - the David Austin roses have exploded into bloom, so brazen they're almost pornographic, the clematis is happily scaling the walls, and the pansies haven't yet gotten leggy and over-heated. I've neglected my herbs, but they've generously rewarded me with little purple chive blossoms that look so pretty in bouquets that I have a hard time snipping them off their stalks.

There is great pleasure in growing flowers, in poking and prodding and feeding and fussing and snipping like a slightly unhinged pageant mother with her painted and beribboned little girl. Best of all, though, is the profound satisfaction of gathering them in pickle jars and tea tins and admiring them as they flourish and fade.
Hope you are having a marvelous weekend. xo
P.S. Since you asked, pictures of our honeymoon in Positano are forthcoming - it's taking me a while to sort through them.
